I was doing some reflecting yesterday on my endeavours and experiences with the metaphysical world, and all the occurrences and teachings I have had to land me at the place I am today with the strong beliefs that I hold.
I get really concerned with some teachers and students of meditation, energy healing and other metaphysical type concepts. I have witnessed far too many people who are in a vulnerable state or who have a low self esteem, turn to this world for answers, comfort and hope, only to be led onto a path of dysfunctional 'mumbo jumbo' with 'teachers' who prey on the vulnerable to feed their own sense of personal power. These teachers allow themselves to be put on a pedestal in a guru-like fashion by their students, and rather than gently introducing them to this incredible world which can give them the practical tools to manage their lives and themselves more easily, they are taken on a rapid journey into the astral and opened to energy they may not be ready to handle, and introduced to concepts which are far beyond their understanding at that early point in time.
It is my firm belief that if we can't live and function effectively here on earth, then we will not be able to comfortably apply these teachings to our lives so that we can optimally benefit from them. Obviously a lot of people turn to spirituality to assist them in living more easily (I'm one of them!), but surely before being taken on a path to the higher realms, one needs to master the basics first? When you build a house you don't start with the roof, right?
Being a teacher of meditation and other metaphysical type subjects I am constantly reminding my students that like them, I am a normal human being walking the planet. We are alike in that we have chosen to step onto this path in the hope of discovery, growth and development. As a teacher I may have slightly more knowledge or experience with this world at this particular point in time, however this is why I am choosing to devote my time by teaching, to pass on the extra knowledge I have, so that they may too benefit and move further on the path...perhaps teaching one day themselves.
We are really all one...in the same boat......equals. As a human being I have my flaws and bad days just like them, where I get moody and snap at my husband! I have nights out with my girlfriends where I drink too much and wake up with a cracker of a headache the next day. We are all on a path of learning and we certainly do not have to be 'perfect' every moment in order to be eligible to teach and pass on the concepts of this wonderful divine world, or to merely hold the beliefs that we do. For a student to assume that of a teacher places enormous expectation on them...and let's be realistic....there is no such thing as perfection! If we were perfect in every way, surely we wouldn't still be here....learning our lessons? And I for one have a LOT more learning to do!
With my classes and writings I aspire to make them understandable and easily applicable to the lives that we lead in the chaotic, busy and often stressful world that we live in. To do anything but, just doesn't seem worthwhile to me and of any benefit to the new student.
Once along the path a bit further and having mastered the basics then certainly if one is curious and wanting to continue, then the higher realms can be explored....but first we need to be able to sit in our bodies with ease, explore our egos mindfully and get a firm grasp of the human experience before we try to be anything else.
